Download Oracle 11g For Mac

It has been a while since we for the last time received some native software for the mac from Oracle. Short before the release of Oracle rdbms v12 it happened again, the v11gR2 client for the mac is released.

Installing Oracle 11g on OS X 10.11 El Capitan

1. Download and install Vagrant
2. Download and install VirtualBox
3. Download and install Oracle SQL Developer
4. Download the Oracle 11g zip file for Linux x64. Always download the Linux x64 zip file, even if you are on Windows or Mac OSX.
5. Clone the vagrant-ubuntu-oracle-xe repository from GitHub

6. Copy the Oracle 11g zip file to the directory vagrant-ubuntu-oracle-xe expects to find it in

7. Install vbguest

8. Invoke Vagrant to install and configure Oracle 11g

9. After a few minutes your local machine will be running an Oracle 11g server on a virtual instance of Ubuntu 14.04

10. You should now be able to connect to the new database at localhost:1521/XE as system with password manager.
